Cyprus, officially the Republic of Cyprus, is a European island country in the South Eastern corner of the Mediterranean. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of its most popular tourist destinations in the world. With a population of nearly 800,000 people, Cyprus is a Presidential republic with universal suffrage and an independent judiciary. An advanced, high-income economy, Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004 and adopted the Euro as its official currency in 2008. The most spoken languages on the island are Greek and English.
